Résumé :	Number of international texts define criteria for selecting MPAs for sea birds: - Level of importance for population of threatened or migratory species - Ecological significance for populations : stages of life cycle key sites - Representativity - Sensitivity - High naturalness Beyond those useful frameworks, scientific and public bodies have to launch knowledge programs in order to gather enough datas to perform decision on designation, management and monitoring. Facing same commitments EU Member States, recentely and actively selecte sea birds MPAs (OSPAR, Birds directive, RAMSAR, national MPAs), start to apply management tool and assess efficacity. But, challenges are huge since they have to manage mobility of species and pressures, different scales (from local breeding areas to large feeding areas, from individual MPA to international and shared network). No doubt that a lot of progress have to be done in a better knowledge for management issues, hoping that precautionary principle could avoid definitive impact.
