| Résumé : |
An integrated research program was initiated since 2004 to evaluate if the European shag Phalacrocorax aristotelis can be used as a robust indicator of the marine environment in Mor Braz, southern Brittany, France.
European Shag is a sedentary seabird which show important population fluctuation related to environmental variation. Its ecology aspects such as demography, diet and at-sea distribution provide key information to improve general understanding of marine ecology in southern Britany. Three breeding colony has been studied to identify:
• Demography (breeding success, survival rate)
• Spatial distribution (colony parameters, at-sea distribution)
• Diet (foraging strategy, prey availability)
• Anthropic interactions (fishing, recreation activities, disturbance)
This program has initiated modelling environmental parameters influence on population dynamics to describe functional relationship between oceanic ecosystems and a top predator biology. |
