| Résumé : |
We conducted biotelemetry and dietary investigations in northern gannet from the Rouzic colony, Sept-Iles Archipelago (21000 pairs) across the year cycle and over the period 2005-2012, using GPS recorders, time-depth-recorders, miniaturised HD cameras or geolocators on over 170 adults. This large data set confirms that birds feed exclusively within the western English Channel during the incubation and chick-rearing phases, showing marked foraging site fidelity and feeding predominantly on garfish and mackerel caught within 10m depth. Outside of the breeding season, adult birds wintered within European waters, visited the Mediterranean, or migrated to coastal areas off West Africa, remaining within 4000-5000km from their breeding site and showing marked multiyear wintering site fidelity. Our biotelemetry information allowed the identification of two marine Important Bird Areas in the English Channel. |
